Fort Madison, located in the seaside village of Castine Maine, provides the perfect backdrop for a wedding. Hannah & Chris celebrated their marriage in the summer of 2019.

Hannah and Chris have been dear friends of mine for a long time and although I love all the weddings I have photographed this one will always hold a special place in my heart. Not only was their wedding in one of my favorite towns in Maine, Castine, but it also took place at one of my favorite venues, Fort Madison.

Chris and Hannah met at a 2016 New Year’s Eve party at the Rice Hotel in downtown Houston and immediately hit it off.  Their connection must have been evident to others because a bar tender thought they were a couple and insisted on taking their photo.  When they informed her that we had only just met she was shocked and went on to say that they would get married one day.  At the time Hannah and Chris thought she was crazy, but she ended up being right and they have the picture framed on our bedside table.

Chris proposed to Hannah on a rooftop overlooking downtown Houston. Chris cooked up a romantic dinner and hid the ring box in an oven mitt. During the meal Hannah tried to put the oven mitt away and Chris had to repeatedly tell her it was fine where it was. Several minutes after the excitement of Chris getting down on one knee Hannah realized he’d reached into the oven mitt, rather than his pocket, for the ring!

While deciding where to get married they settled on Chris’s hometown, Castine. They decided to hold their ceremony at Fort Madison and have their reception at the Wilson Museum.

“When my wife and I started considering wedding photographers, Helen was hands down our number one choice! We were thrilled she was available on our wedding date because she is in such high demand! Helen is not only INCREDIBLY talented but she also has the very rare ability to keep you at ease amidst the wedding chaos. She really made our day so perfect and we feel truly blessed. We can’t wait to see all of the beautiful work Helen will continue to do in the future!” – Chris, Groom
